Location
Meeting Place
Lessons are by appointment. We meet at the corner of Stoke St and Esplanade, Sumner, Christchurch. Look for Aaron and the ‘Learn to Surf’ vehicle.
Getting there
There is only one main route to Sumner from Christchurch and is well sign posted. If traveling by bus take the Purple Line Bus to Sumner, get off at the Stoke St stop in Sumner and walk 200 metres to the beach. Look for Aaron and the ‘Learn to Surf’ vehicle.
Sumner is a sleepy seaside suburb of Christchurch, the South Islands largest city (Popn. approx. 380,000). Sumner is just twenty minutes drive from the centre of town and is serviced by public transport.(Purple line Bus). Sumner offers accommodation for all budgets. There are several good bars, cafes, and restaurants. There is also a supermarket, post office, and movie theatre.
We were severely affected by the earthquakes in 2010/2011 but we have recovered strongly. The beach area was unaffected. The road out here has been repaired and the containers have all gone.

Our New Brighton location is currently not operating but we hope to have a presence in Brighton again soon.
Surf Beaches
Most lessons occur at Scarborough Beach, Sumners main beach. The waves are gentle rolling surf ideally suited to beginners, longboarding and SUP surfing. If conditions are not suitable at Scarborough then we have the option of moving to either Sumner Beach or Taylors Mistake Bay. Taylors Mistake Bay is Christchurch’s’ best surf beach, providing steep powerful waves for Intermediate to Advanced Surfers.
